Support for flexible contracts in Vision Network Analysis<\/h1>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Starting with version 9.9, Vision Network Analysis supports calculations for flexible connection contracts. Calculations for these new contract types offers grid operators and other Vision users even greater insight into scarce grid space. This allows them to use this more efficiently and make space available to (sustainable) clients.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Non-firm ATOs<\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Since early 2024, grid operators have had the option to offer flexible connection transport agreements (non-firm ATOs) to assist them in combatting congestion. Non-firm ATOs offer no fixed transport capacity; in exchange for discounted network rates, transport rights can be limited by the grid operator at pre-arranged times. By signing a non-firm ATO, parties that can arrange their grid use flexibly create space on the grid for others, thus contributing to a reduction of network congestion.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

Types of flexibility<\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Performing calculations for non-firm ATOs requires the addition of new calculation methods in Vision Network Analysis. The new contracts can take different shapes, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • The contract fixes a maximum limit to transport capacity. As soon as the capacity is exceeded, the client pays a higher rate. If the capacity is limited by the grid operator, this results in a positive calculation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • The contract fixes a timed profile. The client will receive the agreed capacity during certain times or periods. At other times or periods, only limited capacity will be available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The new version of Vision Network Analysis, which has already been released, allows users to perform calculations for the new contract types.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

      Non-firm ATOs offer many options to combat congestion. Ideally, grid operators will balance out flexible contracts against one another, so that the available capacity can be used optimally. In the ORKEST project, we are working with other partners to finetune this optimization, for example by investigating whether an optimal profile can be drawn up for new clients who are seeking to be connected. We expect to be able to integrate these powerful calculations in Vision Network Analysis in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
